Three leading practitioners in sound have been named as 2012 artists in residence by the Exhibition Road Cultural Group (ERCG).
David Cunningham, Aleksander Kolkowski and Jason Singh will take up their posts at the Royal College of Art, Science Museum and V&A respectively from January 2012. Their residencies form part of Supersonix, ERCG’s Olympic-year project celebrating the art and science of sound.
All three resident artists will have open studio sessions and showcase their work in progress to public audiences. They will also participate in a three-day Supersonix conference (June 21-23), which brings together artists and scientists from across the world to investigate sound and sonification from many perspectives: neurological, visual, musical and architectural, among others.
The Supersonix project culminates in Exhibition Road Music Day on 23 June 2012, when the institutions in South Kensington offer an extensive free programme of international music and musicians on a series of indoor and outdoor stages.
‘The calibre of artists who applied or were nominated for our residencies was truly impressive and of international quality and reach,’ said Paul Cutts, chief executive of ERCG.
‘David, Aleks and Jason each bring a unique sonic perspective and practice to bear and we’re hugely excited about what might emerge from their association with some of the leading institutions in South Kensington.’
