Institut français

The Institut français is the official French government centre of language and culture in the UK. It is one of 150 such institutes in more than 50 countries throughout the world and, through its Language Centre, teaches over 6,000 students a year through a wide range of courses and levels.

As part of the Cultural Centre, the Ciné Lumière is a showcase for the best French, European and world cinema. With more than 600 screenings a year, it shows premières, recent releases, classics and rare movies, retrospectives and special events such as personal appearances by directors, screenwriters and actors. Open, affordable and accessible, Ciné Lumière – part of the Europa Cinemas Network – shows all its films with English subtitles.

The Institut français has Britain’s largest French multimedia library. The collection comprises 50,000 documents, 45,000 books, 150 French periodicals and newspapers, 3000 CDs, 2,000 video films and 300 CD-Roms.
