Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum, famous for its beautiful Victorian building, is home to the nation’s finest collection of natural history specimens. It brings visitors face to face with the power of nature through the collection, exciting temporary exhibitions, events, education programmes and free galleries, ranging from the iconic Diplodocus in the Central Hall to the blue whale in Mammals.

The Museum collection totals more than 70 million plants, animals, fossils, rocks and minerals from around the world, with more than 300 scientists and students using the collections to research problems such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

The Museum’s new Darwin Centre opened in September 2009, and is a state-of-the-art life sciences complex, turning the spotlight on the important role the Museum plays in researching the natural world, allowing visitors to explore the collections and interact with scientists.
