The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is the world’s greatest museum of art and design. It was established in 1852 to make works of art available to all and to inspire British designers and manufacturers, and in 1899 Queen Victoria renamed the Museum in memory of her husband, Prince Albert.
The museum’s rich and diverse collections, comprising over 2.7m objects, span three thousand years of human creativity from all over the world. Galleries include spectacular ceramics, fashion, glass, jewellery, metalwork, sculpture, textiles and paintings. The museum has recently undergone a programme of renewal and restoration, with splendid Victorian interiors becoming displays that are both beautiful and inspiring.
In addition to its outstanding free permanent collection, the V&A has an extensive range of talks and lectures, courses and workshops, family activities and an internationally acclaimed programme of temporary exhibitions.
